POGO - Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean promotes capacity building and training targeted primarily at scientists from developing countries and those with economies in transition.
The current Training Programmes, with the sponsorship and support of Nippon Foundation and the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research are:
- NF-POGO Centre of Excellence in Observational Oceanography intensive course of 10 months duration in AWI, Germany;
- NF-POGO Regional Training Programme 2 to 3 week course focused on specific topics held in a different country every year;
- POGO-SCOR visiting Fellowship programme on Oceanographic Observations for young professionals from developing countries with a maximum duration of 3 months;
- Shipboard Training with a yearly varied cruise placement;
- Austral Summer Institutes (ASI), a series of lectures which take place at the University of Concepcion in Chile around December-January each year.
